The location is on Lane 1088 of hip Yuyuan Road neighborhood, so it was well-reasoned for us to combine modernity and tradition for the concept. The entire project design was based on the functionality necessary for intended activities to be carried out conveniently within the space.
Light tones were used as a base to give a fresh breath to the space and serve as a blank canvas to work on
the green tone which is the signature of this space. Using natural materials like stone and wood along with inherent modern defects like exposed pipes bestow a new life and vitality to the space through design.
We sought to balance the traditional elements with minimalist references which were translated into the design language that constituted the concept of the project. The clean aesthetic without many visual distractions results in a calm, contemplative space with an intrinsic magic.
The French-style entrance is designed with lines, as if an optical illusion portal which could reach another world. The facade is like a book, waiting for exploration. Different scenes inside can be seen by the windows, like capturing different moments.
The metal frames with a low saturation gentle green is reminiscent of Art Nouveau glasshouses. Vert Réséda is the name of this color, inspired by the Grand Palais in Paris. The French Windows and minimal single door add a cozy and casual atmosphere, allowing the audience to relax and immerse in the artistic atmosphere.
Different things - books, digital artwork, plants, coffee - come together in this building, likewise expecting all kinds of different interesting souls to merrily gather together in this space.
We are trying to build a context between the space and people, to create a unique aesthetic experience. Through the space, the infinite energy of Gwantsi can energize our life. Like plants nourished by soil, this space nourishes the growth of ideas and imagination.
While customers wait and watch the barista prepare a cup of coffee for them, they will have a feeling of “visiting an old friend”, they can have a relaxing chat with the barista next to the counter. The purpose is shorten the sense of distance between people naturally.
The design of folding windows and mini-bar dissolve the internal and external boundaries of the space; people can sit in the coffee shop and enjoy the outdoors, so that the two separate areas interact and connect. The terrace continues the design of the first floor, it’s like an inviting sign, inviting passers-by to step into the space and explore.
